The Safe Space Run reminded us that while running can often feel like an individual activity, it can also be about running together to create meaningful change. Every step against violence counts!

On Saturday the 19th of October, the CEU Runners got together for running with a higher purpose in the Viennese Prater. We participated in the Safe Space Run, which is no ordinary race, but a powerful display of solidarity and support for the Autonomous Austrian Women's Shelters, an organization dedicated to providing safe homes for women facing domestic violence. The Safe Space Run is a meaningful event where every runner contributes through raising money in each lap for funding these vital resources, making each step part of a meaningful mission.

The format of the race was simple: a 2-kilometer loop that participants could run as many times as they could. For each lap completed, sponsors donated money to the shelters, transforming distance into donations. This unique structure meant that the motivation to run was not only for personal accomplishment but also to maximize the support given to a worthy cause. Our CEU Runners Club took on the challenge with each runner bringing their excitement, determination, and commitment to making a difference.

At 2 p.m., the whistle blew, and the race began. The first lap was filled with fresh energy and excitement as we put one foot in front of the other. Our team pushed each other along, with words of encouragement and cheers to fellow participants as well as each other. Each step was a reminder of the lives we were helping. The thought that each completed lap meant more funds for the shelters kept not only us but everyone highly motivated.

As the hour quickly began to pass, the laps started to add up. Some of us ran further than we ever thought we could, going beyond our limits. By the end, our CEU Runners Club had collectively run over 68 kilometers for the cause. While we were tired, the sense of accomplishment that we were contributing to such an important cause kept smiles on our faces.

The Safe Space Run left a lasting impression on all of us. Running for something bigger than ourselves brought us closer together as a club and helped us understand the difference we could make as a community.
